Event Details

The Model Code of Ethics for Educators (MCEE) has been identified as a path forward for educators to disambiguate and clarify the myriad ethical conundrums that educators face every day. The MCEE presents educators and folks engaged in educator development with opportunities to engage with the challenging and not-so-challenging but ever present ethical decisions that they will face as teachers in our nation’s schools.

The MCEE includes 1) Responsibility to the Profession; 2) Responsibility for Professional Competence; 3) Responsibility to Students; 4) Responsibility to the School Community; 5) Responsible and Ethical Use of Technology.

Together, these principles offer our profession a model for decision-making that positions the safety and well-being of our students and educators as primary.

Additionally, the MCEE and the guiding principles help educators maintain their own safety and well-being at a time when educators are already under incredible scrutiny, yet without diminished responsibility or guidance to help them successfully navigate risk.

In these challenging times, it is more important than ever that we provide educators the necessary tools and guidance they need to navigate what often feels like an antagonistic work environment.

In this session, participants will learn about the MCEE. Through a variety of interactive audience engagement techniques, participants will explore their knowledge of the MCEE using a variety of case studies and scenarios designed to position some of the most vexing issues in our schools as ethical challenges (with contextual risk) to be opportunities for growth and learning.

Participants in this session will collaborate with peers from across the state to explore ways in which contextual factors and the socio-political environment influence how decisions are made and how outcomes are interpreted in a variety of situations.
