Event Details

You are in your office, thinking about a recent interaction with a student that left you troubled. Many things are running through your mind. Is this a big deal? Should I call someone? Can I help this student myself? Should I even get involved?

The “Working with Students in Distress Master Class” is designed to help Staff/Faculty respond to students in distress.

Faculty/Staff want to help students when they are in distress, but sometimes struggle with right words and best approaches. Additionally, distressed students are a key source of distress for Staff/Faculty.

The Master Class teaches language and practical skills to help Staff/Faculty navigate challenging interactions. The Master Class provides signs of what distress looks like, ideas of what to do and what not to do, skills to manage emotionality of such interactions, framework for the cultural variations of distress, and language to have the confidence to act when students are struggling.

Plan to attend all four sections as this is a Master Class.

When: February 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 3:00 – 4:15 p.m.

Where: Lindquist Center, N111
