Biography

Micki has been a military spouse for over twenty years, traveling the world with her husband, Kevin, and two sons Dylan and Gavin. Born and raised in Iowa she married her college sweetheart after he graduated from the University of Iowa and commissioned into the Army. Since then, they have lived in 9 states and abroad in Germany. Their path came full circle in 2019, returning to Iowa City when her husband received a position leading the University of Iowa Army ROTC as the Professor of Military Science. Micki currently works at Advanced Dentistry of Iowa City as a Scheduling Coordinator. Throughout her time as a military spouse, Micki has volunteered her time leading and working with military families in Family Readiness Groups. At the previous location, she was the Family Readiness Group Senior Spouse assisting over 700 Soldiers and families. Micki also worked for Military Child Education Coalition in Fort Hood, TX. Micki and Kevin lost their 16-year-old son, Dylan, in March of 2021. After a lengthy battle with depression and anxiety, Dylan ended his life. Since then, she has been working with local schools and groups to find ways to battle the mental health crisis facing our youth. She is a founding member of the I’m Glad You Stayed Project, a non-profit started by one of her son’s friends after his death.
