Val was a special education teacher for 11 years in an urban school district. She received her bachelor’s degree from UNI and her Master’s degree from Drake University. Val has worked for the AEA system for over 15 years. Her first role in the AEA was Special Education Representative. Currently, she serves as a SEBH systems coach for Grant Wood AEA. This work includes supporting school improvement work and systems work through professional learning and the continuous improvement process. She supports SEBH through PBIS, Social Emotional Learning, Trauma, Mental Health, and Restorative Practices.
