Introducing MoBeGo (Monitoring Behavior on the Go), an app designed to facilitate self-monitoring for elementary-aged students struggling with low levels of engagement and/or high levels of disruptive behavior during instruction.
Overview
Decades of research show that self-monitoring helps students build the self-regulation skills they need to succeed. MoBeGo makes the process of self-monitoring efficient, effective, and enjoyable. Through MoBeGo, students and their teachers engage in goal setting, progress monitoring, feedback, and positive reinforcement.
MoBeGo automatically graphs student behavioral data and applies expert-level decision rules behind the scenes. Based on student data, MoBeGo makes suggestions to teachers about adjusting how often students should self-monitor and what their goal should be.
These automated, data-based suggestions help eliminate guess work, reduce the effort of manual data analysis, and prevent students from continuing in interventions longer than actually needed. For students, this means higher impact interventions. For teachers, this means more time spent teaching, as research has shown students significantly increased their academic engagement and decreased their disruptive behavior when using MoBeGo (Bruhn et al., 2022; Bruhn et al., 2026).
Right now we are testing the latest version of MoBeGo. So, it is available only to current study participants. After the current study’s conclusion, MoBeGo and the training materials will be freely available to the public. If you are interested in participating in the current study, see information below, as we are currently enrolling participants!
Current Study
During the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years, our research team is conducting a larger IRB-approved study to better understand both the benefit of MoBeGo and the effectiveness of a newly developed online teacher training. This study includes additional sites in Iowa and Tennessee.
- WHO: 3rd-5th grade classroom teachers who have a student with challenging behavior
- WHAT: Teachers and one of their students will use MoBeGo for one class period each day for 20 days and complete a few pre-post measures.
- DURATION: Training, intervention, and follow-up are expected to take about 6 weeks.
- COMPENSATION: Teachers will receive $300 and free access to MoBeGo after they complete their portion of the study.
* All participation is contingent upon school-district approval.
