Three years after opening, the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health is transitioning clinical services to a 'for-fee' model.
Initially funded by $20 million in federal pandemic aid, and sustained by a $15 million gift from the Scanlan family in 2022, the center is now looking to other revenue streams. Alongside the shift to a 'for-fee' model, the Scanlan Center clinic will also expand its child psychiatry services to all 99 Iowa counties.
Amanda Elliott, the sole psychiatrist for the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health Clinic, says that only 14 out of Iowa's 99 counties currently have a child psychologist. Through both in-person and virtual clinic options, Elliott is hopeful they can reach some of the most underserved areas of the state.
