Learn about the field of psychiatry and its place in mental health, the educational and clinical training required to become a psychiatrist, the work a psychiatrist does, and gain a foundational understanding of the conditions psychiatry addresses and the approaches used in treatment.

Learning Goals

  1. Improve understanding of the role of psychiatry in the field of mental health.

  2. Discuss what makes psychiatry different than other types of mental health providers.

  3. Recognize the types of mental health concerns that psychiatrists treat, so that when to refer to psychiatry is better understood.
