Please register here. Join us for a "Snackable Skills" workshop, focused on Working with Students in Distress.
"Snackable Skills" workshops provide bite-sized, practical skills that you can apply in various aspects of your professional and personal lives.
In this workshop, we will dive into how for many students, personal matters can affect their academic performance, causing faculty and staff to be concerned. These are complicated issues, in complicated times, and getting involved can feel intimidating, often resulting in staff and faculty stress.
In this workshop, participants will learn:
- language and practical skills to help navigate challenging interactions
- signs of what distress looks like
- how to gauge student emotionality
- ideas of what to do and what not to do
- simple language to assist with having the confidence to act when students struggle
This workshop will be led by Dr. Barry A. Schreier, Director of Higher Education Program for the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health.
