Biography

Sam McVancel, PhD, is a licensed psychologist at the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health, specializing in grief and loss, anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, adjustment issues, challenging behaviors, and school supports.  

Her approach to therapy utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). 

Prior to joining the Scanlan Center, Sam was a middle school and high school math teacher in Arizona, and a school psychologist for Grant Wood Area Education Agency.   

Fact facts about Sam: She has an impressive whistling talent and even attended Space Camp for Educators during her time as a middle school math teacher.
