Teacher helping student

This workshop is a two-part series that can be customized for various K-12 audiences including educators, school staff, school administrators, and school mental health professionals.

Topic 1: Introduction to Disruptive Behaviors

We will begin with a framework of trauma experiences that are common to youth in Iowa.  Then, we will explore the mental health outcomes of trauma and how that might result in classroom behaviors. Finally, we will then wrap up the session by discussing level 1 interventions that would provide support for students who may have experienced trauma in their lives.

Topic 2: Disruptive Behaviors through a Mental Health Lens

Let's talk about what disruptive behaviors look like in the classroom.  There may be many reasons associated with mental health, but also plenty that are not related to mental health.  We will explore some of the common mental health diagnoses that can lead to challenging behaviors. Lastly, we will discuss some basic interventions to prevent some of the challenging behaviors and suggestions on interventions that might help after challenging behaviors have presented themselves.
